49ers Bench Star During Vikings Game

The 49ers benched a star during the Vikings game Saturday.

San Francisco dominated most aspects of their playoff showdown versus Minnesota this weekend. When it was all said and done, the team cruised to a fairly easy 27-10 victory.

The only real chink in the Niners’ armor was the play of starting cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.

On a third-and-two in Niners territory early on, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins delivered a pass to wide receiver Stefon Diggs that resulted in a 41-yard score.

Witherspoon was very clearly to blame for what transpired, and Kyle Shanahan was not having any of it.

Immediately after the play, he benched his starting corner.

Emmanuel Moseley was ultimately inserted in Witherspoon’s place.

It remains to be seen what possible ramifications this move has for next week when San Francisco will square off against the winner of Sunday’s Green Bay Packers versus Seattle Seahawks showdown.
